Two more awards for RTN!

An announcement from RTN

Rowan Television Network is pleased to announce that RTN has won two Telly awards this year to add to the collection of awards RTN has won over the years. Sketches from Season Two of  “Socially Awkward” and Valentine’s Day from “The Wordsman Show” have been selected by the Telly Awards and the Silver Telly Council to be awarded 2012 Bronze Telly Awards in the student category. The Telly Awards receives over 13,000 entries annually from the finest ad agencies, production companies, TV stations, cable companies, interactive agencies and corporations in the world. This is a great honor for the Rowan Television Network.

Socially Awkward, also known as “SoAwk” by students on campus, is produced by Blake Rice. Socially Awkward is a sketch comedy show that produces short skits and features musical guests. Since production started in the spring of 2010, Socially Awkward has won numerous awards including: Best Comedy and Best in Festival at the Passaic County, finalists in the Wet Your Pants Comedy Film Festival, and they are nominated for Best Picture and Best Comedy in the Campus Movie Fest International Grand Finale.

The Wordsman Show is produced by Scott Wordsman and Pat Harris. The Wordsman Show is a comedy show that could best be described as a mashup between Conan O’Brien and Saturday Night Live. The Wordsman Show features longer comedic segments and segments where characters break the fourth wall to speak to the audience directly.

Both of these shows take advantage of social media and digital outlets such as YouTube and Twitter to increase and engage their audience. Socially Awkward has achieved over 187 thousand video views on YouTube.

The Rowan Television Network is a student run club that programs Channel 5 on campus and a simulcast web stream at<> 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The club, open to all majors, has over 70 active members who strive to learn more about television production while helping the Rowan University community with video production services.  RTN covers live campus events including athletic competitions, Rowan Homecoming festivities, theatrical and variety show performances, and guest speakers.  Additionally, RTN produces its own annual live events including Rowan’s Got Talent and The RTN Charity Telethon.

These Telly Awards truly honor the club and highlight the efforts by the volunteer members to create television programming.  RTN is proud of its members’ accomplishments and thanks all members for their hard work and dedication this past year.
